Charla the inaugural Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Officer at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) in New York, and the elected President of SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science). At CSHL, she is an academic administrator who guides DEI-motivated institutional change initiatives; on the SACNAS Board of Directors, she works collaboratively with staff and membership to enable programs, services, and spaces for marginalized groups in science. She was an NIH IRACDA postdoctoral fellow in Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a PhD in Genome Sciences from the University of Washington.
