Katie Pollard, "Massively parallel dissection of Human Accelerated Regions"

October 2, 2017 -
4:00pm to 5:00pm
Munzer Auditorium, Beckman Center

Free and open to the public.

Dr. Katie Pollard is Director and Senior Investigator of the Gladstone Institutes at UCSF.  Her group develops bioinformatics methods for comparative genomics. They are interested in how genomes and their encoded functions change over time scales from developmental transitions in human cells to evolution across the tree of life. The models and tools created by the Pollard Lab are unified by statistical rigor, a phylogenetic perspective, and massive integration of public data. Collaboration, creating open source software, and promoting open science are priorities. Many of their projects involve machine-learning, stochastic process models of genome evolution, longitudinal modeling, sequence alignment, and multiple hypothesis testing.
