Leslie A. Real is the Asa G. Candler Professor in the Department of Biology at Emory University. Research areas: Genetics, Cell, and Developmental Biology Population Biology, Evolution, and Ecology Computational Biology. The Real lab has been characterizing the sequence variation in RNA viruses (especially rabies and Ebola) in order to understand the ecological dynamics and the molecular evolution of viruses during the course of disease emergence. Often the data can be recovered from both historical and contemporary samples, providing a unique capacity to simultaneously assess ecological patterns and evolutionary process.
