Qiufu Ma, "The exteroceptive versus interoceptice subdivision of the somatosensory system"

Dr. Qiufu Ma received his BS from Fudan University in 1987 and PhD from UCLA in 1994. After postdoctoral training at Caltech, he became an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School in 1999, and then a full Professor in 2011. He was a Pew Scholar from 2000-2004, and has been working on the development and functions of the somatic sensory circuits. Major contributions include the identification of transcription factors that specify primary and relay sensory neuron subtypes, and the mapping of spinal pathways that transmit and gate pain or itch.
