SEA-PHAGES: an integrated Research-Education Community (iREC) promoting student inclusion and persistence

With funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Dr. Graham Hatfull explores ways to integrate research priorities with science education via the Phanning the Phlames: Advancing the Phage Hunters Integrating Research and Education (PHIRE) and Science Education Alliance Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) programs. The research interests of the Hatfull lab include the molecular genetics of the mycobacteria and their bacteriophages, with particular interests in viral diversity and evolution, genetic systems for tuberculosis, and the mechanisms of site-specific recombination.
