Text Description of the Capstone Project Decision Tree

Exploring Biology capstone options

This flowchart can help you explore some of the main capstone options in Biology. Feel free to reach out if you have questions. 

Note: This flowchart does not include all of the out of department capstone options that may be available.

The first question (Q1) reads, "Do you want to include undergraduate research in your capstone?" 

  • If you answer yes to Q1, it asks question 2 (Q2) "Will your project be fairly independent and hypothesis-driven (and 10+ units of work)?
    • If you answer yes to Q2, the Honors Program in Biology might be the best option for you.
    • If you answer no to Q2, an Independent Capstone in Biology might be the best option for you.
  • If you answer no to Q1, it asks question 3 (Q3), "Are you interested in including art as a key feature in your capstone project?"
    • If you answer yes to Q3, the Senior Reflection in Biology might be the best option for you.
    • If you answer no to Q3, you are taken to question 4 (Q4), "Do you want the freedom to design your own capstone project?"
      • If you answer yes to Q4, an Independent Capstone in Biology might be the best option for you.
      • If you answer no to Q4, you might wish to explore out of department options.
