There are many people at Stanford that can serve as fantastic advising resources for both prospective and current Biology majors, as well as pre-professional students intending to pursue medical, dental, veterinary, or graduate school. In the Biology department, these resources fall into three categories:

Peer Advisors

BioBridge is the department's peer advising program and is comprised of junior and senior Biology majors. They are available to offer advice on course loads, choosing advisors, creating a 4-year plan, providing resources for tutoring, as well as tips on finding a research advisor or sharing personal experience about studying away from campus.

BioBridge is located in the Biology Garage (Gilbert 119), and advisors hold office hours at various times Monday-Friday during the weeks 2-9 of the academic year.

Visit the BioBridge page for more information, including advisor bios and quarterly office hours. You can also send your questions directly to biobridge [at] (biobridge[at]lists[dot]stanford[dot]edu).

Undergraduate Staff Advisor

The Undergraduate Student Services Officer is available to help students with administrative matters including, but not limited to, transferring course work, petitioning major requirements, reviewing course schedules, specific questions related to research, grants, the departmental honors program, and advising about the general requirements and honors tracks available in the degree program. All declared Biology majors have an academic file in the Student Services Office, and will receive a degree progress update 3 times per year.

Patricia Ayala Macias - Undergraduate Student Services Officer ayalamac [at] (subject: Questions%20about%20the%20Biology%20Minor) (ayalamac)ayalamac [at] (@).

The Biology Student Services team will be onsite in Gilbert 118 Monday-Thursday from roughly 9am to 4pm. While drop ins are always welcome, we highly encourage students to schedule appointments.

Faculty Advisors

All Biology majors are required to choose a faculty advisor in the department when they declare the major. Faculty advisors are available to discuss your course load, future career and academic interests, and research. Students contact faculty directly via email or by visiting their offices.
